media guide and record books

One of my biggest undertakings was to translate 20+ years of minor league history from the Calgary Flames into a one-stop shop of notes, stats and records.  In 2015-16, the Stockton Heat Media Guide and Record Book was introduced, taking into account the Flames history of farm teams from the Birmingham Bulls of the former Central Hockey League in 1980-81, to the Heat in 2015-16, and everything in between.

Modeled after the Calgary Flames own Media Guide, it includes a number of helpful notes and records. Hours and hours were put into the guide, but what came out was a terrifically detailed account of the history of the Flames Top Affiliate, which has been extraordinarily helpful both for our record keeping, the Heat media, the Flames and the Flames media.

Take for example when Oliver Kylington made his NHL debut for the Flames on April 9, 2016 at 18-years-and-326-days old, the youngest ever to make his Flames debut as a call-up from the American Hockey League.  The previous youngest was Robyn Regehr who made his debut on October 28, 1999 at 19-years-and-192-days old.

This book was 100% researched, assembled, and created by myself and one intern over Summer 2015, a stark contrast to my very first media guide put out on my own in 2014-15 for the Stockton Thunder’s 10th Anniversary season, which was edited by me, but built by former broadcaster Mike Benton.

A new version of the Stockton Heat Media Guide and Record Book was put out in 2016-17 before it was decided that the full record book would be updated every few years.
