UC Bearcat Hockey Website (2010 – 2011)
In 2010, I had designed, coded, and managed the official site for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats ice hockey team. I coded the website using HTML and CSS with a small amount of Flash and Javascript.
Designing the website posed an interesting challenge as it was the first time I was designing something not intended for my own use. Here are my concepts before the final design was agreed upon.
I decided that retro was the way I wanted to brand the team. This was due somewhat in part to the University’s policy that even club sports cannot use the “C-Paw” logo. I’ve always been a big fan of the old Bearcat logo, but when I did some research I stumbled on the Primary logo from 1959. I fell in love immediately and continue to argue that the University should rebrand with that logo. It’s unique, ferocious, and retro. I touched up a copy using Photoshop and built the current website with the “Old Time Hockey”!
After I left for my internship, I suggested the team implement a Content Management System like WordPress as not everyone was able to edit code. It is successful and they still using the old retro Bearcat for their branding. Their current website can be found at UCBearcatHockey.com.
